Construction Update
Construction of the bandshell at Craighead Forest Park began in 1998
with the site preperation and and ground work. The photos below show the
efforts of our hard working volunteers. Many local folks came out and
helped with the construction of the foundation and concrete pad. The
bandshell will give Jonesboro a place for open air concerts and theater
performances. The building site is located on Access Road 6 in the park
with the lake providing a beautiful backdrop for the stage.
Dean Lamberth and Larry Heyl spent two afternoons preparing the site for
ground work. The City of Jonesboro came out and dug the footings.
Jonesboro Ready Mix generously donated 7-1/2 yards of concrete to pour
the footings. Special thanks to the Street Department, the Engineering
Department, and the Parks Department for their coordinated effort.
Next the block was laid for the bandshell and we want to thank the many
folks who donated their time to lay block, mix concrete, and run
shovels.
After the block work was done the foundation was back filled and the the
dirt was compacted so that the concrete pad could be poured. Then came
the really big job pouring and finished all that concrete. Many thanks
to the parks department, the street department and to Jonesboro Ready
Mix for helping with this task.
The carpentry work is now well underway with crews working every
weekend. If you are interested in helping please contact us at
