The Delta Cultural Center in Helena, Arkansas will throw open it's doors at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 6, and all of you are invited!!

There are two major exhibits. At the Missouri Pacific train depot on Missouri Street is DCC's all-new "Heritage of Determination" exhibit, which focuses on the history of the land and people of the Arkansas Delta.

Of special interest to blues fans is DCC's all-new "Delta Sounds" exhibit at the Center's storefront facility on Cherry Street, just around the corner from the old Depot (see below for more details on "Delta Sounds").

The ribbon cutting is 10:30 AM, and doors to the exhibits will open at 11:15 pm. From then on, the museum will be open 7 days a week. Admission is FREE.

During the Grand Re-opening celebration, there will be all sorts of festivities and activities in downtown Helena, including FREE concerts featuring music from the Arkansas Delta, as follows:

11:15 am: Philllips, Lee, Monroe, and Desha Gospel Choir
12 noon: LEVON HELM & the Barn Burners
2:00 pm: SAM CARR
4:00 pm: JOHN WESTON

The all-new "Delta Sounds" exhibit presents stories of legendary musicians with roots in the Arkansas Delta, including blues giants Sonny Boy Williamson, Louis Jordan, Robert Lockwood, James Cotton, Robert Nighthawk, and Albert King; country/rockabilly stars Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty; and gospel/soul singer Al Green . . . just to name a few of the musicians featured in photos, words, and music!

Additionally, in the "Delta Sounds" room, you'll be able to:

Watch "King Biscuit Time," the nation's longest-running daily radio show, broadcast live each weekday at 12:15 p.m., hosted by the legendary Sonny Payne;

See and hear videotaped highlights from Helena’s annual King Biscuit Blues Festival, the largest free blues festival in the South;

Listen to “Delta Sound Bites,” musical excerpts and commentary about notable Delta musicians;

Learn about blues through an interactive activity called "8 Keys to the Blues”.

Also, on the Thursday preceding the Grand Re-opening, Thursday May 4 there is a fund-raiser for DCC ($25 per person) which includes an exclusive advance tour of the facility between 6:30 and 8:30 pm. Arkansas Governor Huckabee is expected to attend.
