Welcome to Something Blue, This is Hairy Larry and I've got the Blues,
... for you.

All right, we're featuring the music of Sam Hurrie, a Canadian bluesman
from Howl River, British Columbia. We met Sam at the Clarksdale
festival a few years back and kept in touch at the festivals and via
email. In August of 1997 he was in the Delta and we recorded him for
Something Blue. He plays a National Resonator guitar that gives him This
Distinctive Blues sound.

Sam Hurrie first heard the blues listening to Ronnie Hawkins and the
Hawks playing in Canada. In fact his first guitar lessons were from
Robbie Robertson. Since then he has become a student of Robert Johnson,
Charlie Patton, and Furry Lewis. Lets hear some more of this great
traditional blues.

And that's Sam Hurrie, from Powell River, British Columbia with some
traditional acoustic blues recorded for Something Blue, August 5, 1997.
I hope you've enjoyed Sam's music.

Closing the show here's a couple of songs I wrote in 97 for the NSAI
songwriter's class. The first one is called "I Think I'll Lay Around
the House Today". The second is a Christmas Carol I wrote about two
weeks before Christmas and recorded Christmas Eve. I'm Larry Heyl, your
producer and host. The show was engineered by Vivian Heyl and myself.
Until next week this is Hairy Larry reminding you once again ... Blues
is the Mainstream. Now, here are my songs.

Sam Hurrie plays regularly in the Vancouver area but whenever he comes
to the Delta for a Blues Festival he always brings his guitar with him
and he is often invited to play. When I heard he would be staying in
Jonesboro and Rector for a week I set up a recording session. We made
these tapes on August 5th, 1997. Sam on guitar and vocals and I played
harp on a few.
