Something Blue Originally Aired 02/27/99 - Blues Fest 98
Kattawar Brothers, John Shepherd and Tacos on Tap

play - Kattawar Brothers

Welcome to Something Blue. This is Hairy Larry and I've got the Blues,
for you ...

play - Kattawar Brothers

All right, that's Mike and Jerry Kattawar tearing it up at Blues Fest
98. They perform as a duo, just piano, vocals, and drums, but they get
more sound than many large bands. Jerry is the piano picker and the
frontman, singing songs and telling lies. His brother Mike tries to keep
the beat going on the drums even though he never knows what Jerry's
going to do next.

Jerry and Mike go back to the early days of rock n roll in the fifties
and their Boogie Woogie sound is like a time machine. They remain active
in the nineties playing many festivals including the Granddaddy of them
all, the Delta Blues Festival at Greeneville, Mississippi where last
year they organized the Juke House Stage.

Let's listen to some more of their performance at Blues Fest 98.

And that's the Kattawar Brothers doing their crowd pleasing best at
Blues Fest 98. You've heard of piano players who play with their feet?
Well Jerry Kattawar climbs right up on the keys and plays with his hands
and his feet at the same time. And at Greeneville he wasn't done until
he had climbed up on the roof of the stage and sang one from up there.
A real showman fronting an act that's the genuine article, great boogie
woogie right out of the birth of rock n roll.

Next we're going to feature another Blues Fest 98 performance, John
Shepherd and Tacos on Tap. John is a fine songwriter as well as an
outstanding technical guitarist. We're going to play some of his
originals but first here's the John Lee Hooker Classic, "Boom Boom Boom
Boom".
