Antones Women - Antones
All Right, four ladies giving you some blues vocals and guitars.
First up tonight was Debbie Davies doing a Freddie King number
called "Sidetracked". Then Joanna Connor sang an Aretha Franklin
song, "Dr. Feelgood". Bonnie Raitt played slide guitar on her
own composition "Tangled and Dark". And then Sue Foley gave us
"Queen Bee" from the anthology "Antone's Women".
These ladies all front their own bands with vocals and lead
guitar work in a new role for females in the blues. They are
bandleaders, song writers, road warriors, and when they get out
on the stage they cook with guitars. Here's Joanna Connor doing
another Freddie King song, "Texas Flyer".
play - Joanna Connor, Texas Flyer 3:17
Believe It! - Blind Pig Records
play - Sue Foley, Open Up Your Eyes 2:25
Without a Warning - Antones
play - Debbie Davies, Better off With the Blues 5:30
Picture This - Blind Pig Records
After Joanna Connor we heard Sue Foley do "Open Up Your Eyes".
And the Debbie Davies did a song that Delbert McClinton cowrote
which is already a classic, "Better off with the Blues".
Bonnie Raitt called on Delbert McClinton to help her out on her
CD "Luck of the Draw". Let's listen to Bonnie and Delbert sing
their hit "Good Man, Good Woman".
play - Bonnie Raitt, Good Man Good Woman 3:24
Luck of the Draw - Capitol
play - Sue Foley, Annies Driftin Heart 2:17
Without a Warning, Antones
play - Bonnie Raitt, Papa Come Quick 2:40
Luck of the Draw - Capitol
Bonnie Raitt like Eric Clapton and John Hammond is a white
musician who has helped extend the blues to a new audience. Her
popular success has opened doors for blues women throughout the
world. We just heard her sing "Papa Come Quick". And before
that Sue Foley, stretching out a little bit on her new CD,
"Without a Warning" did her own song "Annie's Drifting Heart.
Albert Collins, the Master of the Telecaster was a great Bluesman
who knew guitar talent when he heard it. Debbie Davies played
with Albert and now that he's gone she's left to carry the flame.
He joined her on this next song "I Wonder Why".
play - Debbie Davies, I Wonder Why

Fight - Blind Pig Records
play - Joanna Connor, When You're Being Nice 3:34

And that was Joanna Connor doing "Texas" and "Fight" the title
song from her new CD. We also heard "When You're Being Nice"
from her first album "Believe It!".
play - Sue Foley, Cuban Getaway 3:01
voice over
Closing the show we have Sue Foley doing an Ike Turner tune,
"Cuban Getaway". Until next week then, this is Hairy Larry
reminding you once again, Blues is the Mainstream.
