Deedly Bebop
by Larry Heyl
Recorded with members of the ASU Jazz Band April 22, 2009.
This is the first time my chart on "Deedly Bebop" was played and these Jazz students were sight reading. The fact that both takes came out good is a tribute to their musicianship and to the Jazz program at ASU.
We did two takes and I posted both of them. On the first take my vocals recorded better. I guess I was a little bit keyed up and I had more mids in my voice. The band sound is also a little bit better on the first take. Not surprisingly the solos are a little bit better on the second take. You may well disagree with me on this. Feel free to post a comment.
The second take is a little bit slower by my request. It's only a 4% difference but I can clearly feel the difference in tempo.
The band was directed by Ron Horton, head of the Jazz program at ASU and my Jazz Improv instructor. He is the one that made this session possible.
