One of the most controversial and demanding musicians of the 1970s was Don Van Vliet (1941–2010). He was known for a musical body of work resulting from an eclectic blend of avant-garde, blues, free jazz and rock, underpinned by a variety of rhythms in his own distinctive style, which he managed to adapt to absurd wordplay across a wide vocal range. Although he did not achieve the commercial success of many of his contemporaries, Don did manage to become a revered cult musician who maintained complete control over his ‘Banda Mágica’ and influenced bands in other genres such as punk, new wave and experimental rock. Safe As Milk was recorded in the spring of 1967, at the height of the psychedelic era, produced by Richard Perry and Bob Krasnow, who paid close attention to the details of the twelve tracks that make up this compelling debut album – the first of a total of 13 albums released between 1967 and 1982, as well as three live albums and several compilations. ——————————————————————————- Uno de los músicos más polémicos y exigentes de la década de los años 70 fue Don Van Vliet (1941 - 2010). Conocido por una obra musical que resulta de una ecléctica mezcla de avant-garde, blues, free jazz y rock, apoyada en una variedad de ritmos de estilo personal que lograba adaptar a absurdos juegos de palabras bajo un rango vocal amplio. Aunque no logró el éxito comercial de muchos de sus contemporáneos, Don sí pudo convertirse en un venerado músico de culto que logró tener total control de su “Banda Mágica” e influir en agrupaciones de otros géneros como el punk, el new wave y el rock experimental. Safe As Milk se grabó en primavera del año 1967, en pleno apogeo de la psicodelia, bajo la producción de Richard Perry y Bob Krasnow, quienes cuidaron los detalles de las doce canciones que conforman nuestro atractivo debutante, primero de un total de 13 álbumes entre 1967 y 1982, además de tres discos en vivo y varias recopilaciones. ——————————————————————————– Uno dei musicisti più controversi ed esigenti degli anni ’70 fu Don Van Vliet (1941 - 2010). Noto per un'opera musicale frutto di un eclettico mix di avanguardia, blues, free jazz e rock, sostenuta da una varietà di ritmi dal stile personale che riusciva ad adattare ad assurdi giochi di parole grazie a un'ampia estensione vocale. Sebbene non abbia raggiunto il successo commerciale di molti suoi contemporanei, Don è comunque riuscito a diventare un musicista di culto molto venerato, che ha mantenuto il pieno controllo della sua “Banda Mágica” e ha influenzato gruppi di altri generi come il punk, la new wave e il rock sperimentale.
