Harpstack was born Raymond E Meyer on the first day of Spring 1963.
Similar to the spring rains falling to produce beautiful things, so have the water, storms, and sunshine in his life given life to a bloom of poetry and song.
Harpstack’s music is borne of inspiration ranging from joy to despair and everywhere in between. His songs speak of truth and experiences that everyone can identify with. It would seem appropriate to call him a folks musician; however, influences of blues and country push hard upon the corners of the folk singer box.
Raymond’s harmonica playing had a dark and think sound reminiscent of the delta blues with an emphasis on rhythm and texture. His voice is often referred to as “unique” by his contemporaries.
His song writing is both provocative and clever. Listen carefully and you might find the often hidden messages. “BallRoom Blues” is sure to make you laugh, “That’s What I Get” is certain to jerk a tear, and “She Tickles My Fleas” is guaranteed to amuse!
Currently, you can find Harpstack in Birmingham, AL performing in various venues as a soloist as well as often times “sitting in” with assorted bands.
