John Good and Friends
Honky Tonk Joy
It's been a joy working with John Good, compiling this extensive collection of Central Arkansas music. Musicians featured go back to The Chaps and The Sweet Magnolia Band so this is my gateway into the past, from the sixties to the present and off into the future.
Besides working with me on this album John has been helping KASU catalog and present this Arkansas music scene that has lasted for over 50 years.

When I was 12 years old, I used to go to the junior cotillion dances where The Chaps would play. I saw them several times. I would stand before the bandstand in awe of them. They were a big part of my decision to pursue music. When I was 24, I got into the band!!
When Jim Woodfield got hired by the Uniques The Chaps hired Burger, around 1967. Burger and I became friends and started playing music around '68. The Chaps were now Sweet Magnolia Band and were waiting on a record deal and were not playing out except occasionally. Me & Burger started a little band and started playing around Pine Bluff. Meanwhile, I started playing fiddle in 1970, and as a result of that, and my association with Burger, I got hired by Sweet Magnolia Band, in 1970.
Our little Pine Bluff band was called Burger and The Buns. We had two hippies and two rednecks. Burger and I were the hippies with long hair and full beards. The other two were James Rubow - bass, and T-bo May, I can't remember his real first name. It was a strange sight to see us on the bandstand. Burger and I wore hippie clothes and Rubow and T-bo wore slacks and dress shirts. T-bo was a good singer too, so we had good three part harmony.
